![]() ![]() He even plugged Jackie's review of all people! Wow, J*'s review was on point, AND his critique was hands down perfect. ![]() He didn't hate them, he recommends them IF you can find your right undertone, but prefers the concealer over the foundation. He also said after 6 hours he preferred the matte because his oils came out a little and kind of helped the foundation look a little more skin like. He is oily and 6 hours later he had some minor oils peaking through on the matte side and the dewy side is obviously more dewy. ![]() Dewy, obviously, emphasized more pores but he preferred that side still. The matte side he said was almost too matte for his preference. Both did look good on his skin once he finished the rest of his face. The dewy side is less coverage out the gate but built well. The matte side is VERY matte, and set very quickly which IMO would lead to blending issues. He showed swatches and said that the undertones of the shades they sent him (which they sent him too dark of shades for his complexion, he would have to go buy lighter shades) were VERY strong. Both oxidized before he had a chance to add a second layer. I'm watching Manny's right now and he uses light neutral in matte and I believe light sand in the dewy one and they both oxidized a lot on his skin, pretty much instantly. The entire beauty community was really interested in and waiting for this, and it could be more of a cornerstone, here to stay type of product. I agree that it should get a lot of criticism, but there is a bit of a difference in a foundation like that which no one was really looking for when it came out, and the Shape Tape foundation. It would be like releasing a unicorn or mermaid line foundation. In addition, a foundation like PPCM is clearly a bit of a gimmick bc it's part of a what will ultimately be a temporary line. So, come fall 2017 it became even more out of touch to release bad shade ranges. I do think expanded shade ranges were already started to trend but Fenty made that wave grow. Fenty really made everyone step their game up bc it would be painfully embarrassing to be shown up by a 3-month old brand. There are other companies that had very good shade ranges but IMO they were mostly brands like MUFE that were aimed at pro consumers and even those brands would miss the darkest of dark and lightest of light skin. In fact, Fenty basically launched on the selling point of being inclusive for every skin color, race, ethnicity etc. Everyone's eyes were on Tarte for this launch, they already had the issue of Shape Tapes shade range needing to be expanded, so if they stumbled on this launch the only direction was down.įenty changed the game in September 2017 by being a casual consumer focused brand that launched with virtually every skin tone covered, from a really unexpected source in that it's celebrity makeup brand, which never really stick around. I know it's not a perfect formula for everyone, but it's still one of the most-used items in beauty videos. Shape Tape has reached Laura Mercier powder levels of being universally loved and recommended by Beauty Gurus. You know the saying, when you're on top the only direction is down?
